Late as usual, but at least I am here on the Saturday for once! Here is my Automaton fully unrestored, rescued from a well known charity for sick mowers in Sussex. All ready for advice on its age and how to approach taking it apart as the gears are seized. I was thinking of soaking it in diesel or a bath of molasses on the really rusty bits only and keeping it as original as possible. Should it have a deflector plate and gear covers? Can anybody take some good photos of the correct gear covers, ideally against graph paper as maybe I could 3D print some plastic ones?
Now off to find the stay at home equivalent of the museum cafe for a cream tea.
