Acquired some time ago I was very pleased to find this New Automaton, at that time it was probably my earliest machine. Initially it seemed to be in quite good order but a more detailed inspection showed it to be another sad case of GOS - Garden Ornament Syndrome. Just about everything was gummed up with paint of the incorrect colour, including the wooden hand grips and rear rolls. What is more annoying is that there seems to be some original paint underneath.
The model dates from 1885 but this one is from the last year of production, 1896, having the " no spanner required " handwheel height adjusters.
