1936 Ransomes Overgreens mowing tractor for golf greens

Ransomes Overgreen Golf Tractor 1936
Ransomes Overgreen Golf Tractor 1936

This Ransomes Overgreen was purchased, (the money went to the clubs charity), from Minchinhampton Common Golf Club It is thought to be the very first Overgreens machine sold in England, The Overgreens was first made by The Worthington Mower Company USA. Ransomes were allowed to copy & build them in the UK under licence, (Ransomes also built the first Sidewheel Gang mowers in WW1 with a licence from Worthington). I have 6 Overgreens in my collection, 2 more like this & 3 later types. In the background of the picture you will see a SISIS spiker unit, which could be used on the machine. The Overgreen had a tendency to place greenkeepers in greenside bunkers on a regular basis but all who used them had an affection for these beasts.  The picture was taken when Andrew Hall & I put on an exhibition at the Saltex Groundsman's Show in 2012 to show machine that would have been in use at the British Olympics 1904, 1948 & 2012.
