Here is my Greens Handy edger. This one is the earlier first version with the smooth roller and not many more than half a dozen are known to survive. My particular example does not have an original handle however the replacement is a very good one. Later examples had the grooved roller. I found it quite unwieldy when trying to cut edges with very little control possible. I still love this machine as the quality and complexity of its workings are a marvel. I include an advert from Greens for this smooth edger. As to date, garden ancillaries were produced over the same period as garden rollers ie the 1850's and continued for about a 100 years. This edger would have been at the very early end.
