Hi all, advice please, i need to remove the drive shaft from a Marquis, to avoid damage i thought i had better ask best procedure.

Yes, remove the sprocket, but
Yes, remove the sprocket, but to ensure no damage to the frame side, remove the bearing housing (along with the shaft) and then pull the bearing off.
Unscrew the sprocket - right
Unscrew the sprocket - right hand thread.
Replace and tighten the bearing carrier bolts.
Hold a big hammer or lump of steel in side the side plate to absorb shock.
Hit the end of the shaft hard with a copper or lead hammer or in the absence of such, hard wood block and club hammer. The shaft does have a reduced diameter outboard of the sprocket threads so providing you hit it square on there is little danger of damaging the threads or splaying it.
