Removing Marquis clutch cable

I want to fit a new clutch cable next week, Is there an easy way to remove the clutch cable nipple from the hub lever end? and put the new one in for that matter?

I have the lever clamped up so its slack but can see no way of levering the nipple up out of it.

Many thanks

You don't lever the nipple

You don't lever the nipple out, you push it forward so that its clear of the anchor plate so that the thin cable lifts out through the slot. To get the necessary clearance you need to partially undo the collar within the clutch so that there is enough clearance. To do this without dismantling the clutch you will need a suitable peg spanner (Ransomes tool or homemade. I suggest dismantling the clutch as part of the overhaul process. Watch for the two push rods and the ball bearing between them.

While you have it off the machine it gives the opportunity to free off the thrust adjuster and lock nut  - Inevitably seized up and far easier to do than fight with it on an assembled machine with the equal inevitability of rounding off the adjuster bolt and lock nut.
