Ride-on mower novice

We recently moved house. The new place came with a large garden and we bought the ride-on mower from the vendors. It's an Atco Royale & Webb 24", model number AB1480, with a replacement Briggs and Stratton engine (all the rest looks very vintage). There's no operating manual and I've never used a ride-on mower before; frankly, I'm terrified and not even sure how to start the beast! I've checked the Club's manual section, but can't find a pdf for this model. Any hints and tips from members on what to do (or not do!) would be highly appreciated, especially as the warmer weather is making the grass longer by the minute! Many thanks :o)

Problem is, an Atco Royale and a Webb 24 are two different mowers, it could be you have one with a trailing seat off the other, A picture will provide the answer.

You do not need to use this machine as a ride-on, you can remove the trailing seat and use it as a walk-behind cylinder mower, in fact it might be a good idea to do this until you get used to the controls.

If the grass is fairly long, I would raise the height of cut to maximum and do your first cut, then lower the cut to your requirements and re-mow.

As for the manuals, we need to know just what you actually have.

Thanks, Hortimech (just shows my level of ignorance on matters mowers!). I'll upload a photo tomorrow.

Cheers
