Hello Jaimy

I have some info for you as per my email, also the oil cap you need, had a busy weekend, but will email you direct in next few days with more information, from the images I have I will be able to establish the exact date of the mower etc.

Hello Clive

how nice to see you here.

Very grateful to you. But I had to post something on the forum or risk having my account deleted within a week so. I thought it would be nice to share my project with everyone here as well.

I look forward to hearing from you on what treasures you have found

kind regards

Something must have gone wrong with the pictures, I’ll give it a look later today.

Kind regards

I believe its a 16in Light Motor mower with the Sturmey Archer 4 stroke engine, will date from the early to mid 1930's, but before 1937 when the design changed.

When new would have cost around £42.

As to oil, at the time Castrol XXL 40 Monograde oil would have been recommended & this is still available as used by owners of  pre-1950 vintage cars & motorcycles, Ebay usually has a few sellers.

As to fuel standard un-leaded petrol should be fine.

I should be able to establish a more accurate date from the serial number & will let you know in due course.

I have sourced some caps for you, I think it was the oil one you required, will email direct to see how we can get this to you.

Overall a good looking original mower & excellent grass box which are often missing or in a bad state.

Good to see a Pre 1940's mower on the forum.

Will be in touch

That really is a nice machine, original and unspoiled .

From your first post I assume that it is not a family heirloom, so do you know anything about it’s history / previous owners?

That’s right I bought it from an elderly gentleman. He has a storage garage full of ransomes lawn mowers. And slowly is getting rid of like 80% of them

he bought it from an other gentleman but no further details
