Villiers 3/4 Carburettor advice

Enter a word or two to search the forum section and click the Search Forum button.

I have a Villiers 3/4 Carburettor on my Mk25 Villiers engine. Picture above.

I need some advice on how to get the engine running as efficiently and smoothy as possible. It's a good engine with good compression and spark but I don't think I've got the fuel mix correct on account of the exhaust occasionally blowing tiny flames! I guess as a result of unburnt fuel.

There are two compensating tubes on the carburetor which I presume alter the air/fuel mix but I have no clue which does what and how to set them.

As I say, any advice to get it as efficient as possible please?

Item 28 on you IPL adjusts the position of the tapered mixture needle in relation to the throttle slide . Back firing may be a sign of a weak mixture or even a minor timing issue. If you haven't already done so, clean and adjust the contact breaker points. Think that the points can be accessed without removing the flywheel with the possible  need to re-time from scratch.

Would this be a two stroke engine ?

If so, it is actually a Villiers MK25c.

Next question, what is is fitted to ?

If it is an Allen scythe, then they used to do this when the governor kicked in, the engine sounded like it was 4 stroking and spat small flames from the exhaust.

EDIT: It wasn't until I posted, that I noticed the original post was from 2019, but the website was showing it as a new post, what's going on ?????
