Cylinder painting

Hi,

I've just got hold of a 12" Suffolk Colt. I plan to strip this down completely and restore it. The one thing i'm unsure about is how to refinish the cylinder. How can you repaint this while still leaving the cutting edge?

Thanks,

You'll have to paint it (ideally with a spray gun, because I find it's difficult to stop the paint running on mower cylinders) and then wait for it to dry. You would then have to put the cylinder on a centre lathe and use a grinding wheel in the tool post to go along the edge of the cylinder blades to bring back the shiny cutting edge as well as sharpening the blades. A mower shop can do this for you if you do not have access to a lathe.
