Ransomes Anglia Mk 5

I bought an old 14" lawn roller today and the seller asked if I would be interested in this old mower in bits in a box. He said it was a Ransommes Anglia Mk 5 14". I bought it on a whim and the only bits missing, as far as I know, is the grass box. I have no idea if age but guess it is a 30s model?  I can find very little information on this old mower and would appreciate any info on this. I have yet to go through the box and I am hoping there is a serial number.

Surely there must be a Ransomes expert on here that can tell me a little bit more about this mower? Thanks

Hello

Yes they are a nice mower, in fact my first restoration some years ago was a 1931, Anglia 10in.

The first Anglia introduced I believe in 1928, with the Mk5 coming along in 1935 & sold until 1947, available in 10,12 & 14in.

I can sort you a copy of the parts list which may well help identification of parts/assembly, the grassbox would have been all metal, whereas mine & earlier ones had wooden sides.

There are no actual serial numbers, but the cutting cylinders were often date stamped, I will send details of how you can find this.

Will be in touch.

Thanks Clive on the information about the Anglia. I look forward to the photos and details on dating the cylinder blades.

Hi Clive, it would be great yo have a copy of the Anglia parts manual to help me sort out what's what.

Thanks Andrew

I have started loosely assembling the Anglia Mk5 this afternoon but I am  puzzled by a few pieces as to what goes where.
