I found this on eBay quite near to me and it looks like a nice addition to my collection, only problem is I haven't got a clue what it is.

Heres a link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lawn-Mower-Petrol-Quite-old-1950s-Ransomes-Su…

Hope someone can help.

Thanks.

I've asked my P.A to check the photo and it's a ransomes antelope sidewheel mower dated from the early 60's these are rough cutting cylinder mowers designed for land management and are decent engines. from what's described, it's an F12 sloper engine. not that difficult to service.

wouldn't mind taking one of these on myself.

I don't think its an Antelope as it has an Atco multi plate clutch which I believe makes it an Atco Tuoughcut.otherwise known as the Model SF33 20" Sidewheel Mower! The Antelope used a belt drive with a tensioning pulley to engage and disengage the drive.

Both the Toughcut and the Antelope provided the base unit for their respective manufacturer's mini gang mowers.

Think the PA needs additional training!

I agree that this mower is an Atco but it sure looks as though this one is fitted with a Villiers F12 engine. Was this an alternative to the Suffolk Iron Foundries / Qualcast engine that I have seen on other mowers on this type?

Definitely not a Ransomes Antelope despite apparently sharing the same engine.

Hi.

sorry about the mis description. My P.A recalled the design to a model we checked out a while back. Some atco's came with a BSA sloper as an option from what I'm told. this may have been installed as an afterthought or as a replacement to the original for some reason. I guess we'll never know though lol.

I've not yet encountered an atco version so wouldn't mind feeling my way around one of these models, if not acquiring one..

I have two manual/parts lists for the model SF33 Toughcut and they only show the BSA/Villiers Sloper engine - no option for anything else.
