Hi there

Just after a bit of help regarding installing electronic ignition module to my ransomes marquis

I've ordered the part and it comes with instructions but it would still be a help if some one has installed one previous

Thanks

All depends on what you've ordered. I have fitted Meco units to many Slopers and F15s with 100% success.

Thanks for your reply

It's a nova module, shows the same instructions as the meco unit and the only difference appears to be the colour/shape of the ignition box,

How did you fit the meco unit, I'm sure I can manage it, I'm just new to electrics

Thanks

Dan

If you want to preserve the original look you can remove the points and condenser and fit the Meco onto the stator plate out of sight under the flywheel. The low tension (thin) wire from the coil goes straight to the spade terminal on the unit. If your Marquis has an on/off switch, rather than the spring loaded plug shorting thingy, the wire from the switch joins the coil wire connected to the unit. I believe  that the Nova unit is a little more bulky than the Meco so you will have to assess the situation but I guess that it will fit.

If originality is not an issue I leave the points and condenser in place but disconnect the coil LT wire from them, extend it, and bring it out of the magneto back plate and connect it to the unit which I either hang on one of the valve chest cover screws or make a little bracket for it anchored to one of the engine mounting bolts. I have never has a Meco go down but the exterior mounting position means that it is easily swapped over without having to remove the flywheel and the original points and condenser are still there if at any time you want too go back to the original spec.

Never heardof of seen it done, would sudpect no as there is the impulse start to be considered  but that is a somewhat uninformed guess. Not much help I know  but maybe there is someone on the forum who has tried it.
