Hi Rob, Thanks for that…
Hi Rob,
Thanks for that.
Already tried that Mick chap. He doesn't remove them !.
Haven't got a single machine…
Haven't got a single machine dismantled or I'd do one but if you don't have a two or three legged puller there's always the motorcycle tyre lever method.
Rest the cylinder on its end on a block of wood, not directly on the floor, put the tyre levers on top of opposing ends of the blades that protrude out of the end plate and under the bearing preferably on the inner race and push down levering the bearing off, it's fiddly as hell but it does work, the use of heat is a great idea too also getting someone to steady the cylinder is also advisable as one slip you could end up in a heap on the floor! 😂
On the Webb one you may be…
On the Webb one you may be able to tap the carrier inwards to expose the bearing for access with a two or three leg puller but be ware of damaging the two tin seals which, if I remember correctly , have a felt ring squeezed between them .
Particularly, if you are using tyre levers , I’ve got a couple of 24”/30” ones that don’t take prisoners: it’s a good idea to use a couple of these to protect the inside of the bearing holders : a couple of modified meaty washers slipped inside for the end of the levers to bear against. I’ve got several sizes hung up on the grinder, ready for action.
All very useful. Thankyou…

Perhaps have a look on You…
Perhaps have a look on You Tube? Type in the search box...'Ransomes Ajax 5 restoration'. There are some videos by Micks Mowers - The Mower Man. You might find they show what you need some advice on. I have'nt looked for any similar Webb videos but, you might be lucky. Cheers. Rob
