Hi All
Simple question, I occasionally see ad's & indeed an old photo I have just acquired where the Atco Standard has the silencer in front of engine.
Its usually at the back on most including the 3 I have.
Is this a date issue?
Or
a difference on the larger width machines?
Thanks
Clive

Thanks for that, I learn more each day, this is the photo, said to be early 1920's, I have the name of the operator & location here in Sussex. Thanks for your advice.

The Standards with the silencer in front of the engine were the original 1921 "oval frame" models with the Villiers MkV 269cc engine. These were all 22" cut and, as far as we know, mostly produced in 1921. All other models with the Villiers engine had the familiar "under the engine" exhaust layout.
So while it's neither strictly an age or a width thing these do come into play when dating/identifying the machines in question.
