Hello,

I am quite new to this lawnmower business. Therefore when I read about the mowers or the ad's at the back of Grassbox I have no Idea what these mowers look like. If there was a A-Z listing of mower makes/ models with an image or several images it would be very helpful. Unless there already is and I just haven't found it yet!

Hello

Appreciate what you say, I went through the same problem a few years back, hopefully we will have something like this one day but its a mammoth operation to put it together.I am working on a picture library on my own website alongside many other projects so maybe a while. In the meantime suggest you use the mower profiles as a first step, google images can be useful, but cross-reference as like all information on the web they can be wrong. Any specific mowers you want to know about either post a message here or contact me direct. I will email details.

All the best

Clive

This is something that we have been trying to address "behind the scenes". Some years ago (before the website was fully established) we produced a printed booklet, without images, that partially fulfilled this requirement. This contained an extensive list of manufacturers and models, with cross-referencing, but for a variety of reasons (cost, availability and time mainly) it never included images. This booklet is still available although it hasn't been updated for a few years.

In the past year or so I and one or two other club members have been transferring all of the content to this website. It's not live yet but we expect it will be so by the end of the year.

The web version will initially have the same content but will include live links to other entries. This will make it easier to jump between different cross-references but the links have to be inserted manually for each of the nearly 2000 listings. This takes up quite a bit of time and is the main reason for the delay in publishing the online version (we're about 80% completed at the moment).

Moving the directory online has a number of other benefits. We will be able to add or edit entries more easily so the directory is updated more often. More significantly, perhaps, the new version will allow the inclusion of images to accompany each entry. The new version won't have these images initially but the capability is there to add them. As Clive mentions, it's all rather time consuming and indeed there will be plenty of mowers listed for which we don't yet have an image. I suspect we will cover the more common machines first in any case.

Incidentally, we expect the Directory to be freely accessible online to full (ie paying) members of the club. It will be possible to print out copies with and without images.

I am also working on a complete technical upgrade of the whole website which will be completed in the next few weeks. The new directory will go online after this and, as previously mentioned, by the end of the year.

Keith,

Good luck with the project, if when the the time comes you publish a listing of any mowers that you are struggling to find photos of you may find a member who can supply a photo from their collection. My collection is not vast but it is varied and I would be willing to photograph a machine for you.

Ray.
