I have recently been in contact with Keith regarding the Adverts section on the website which is largely unused and I thought this was something of a shame. It would be good to see what other members think about this potential facilty.

As things stand at the moment this section is only seen by registered Club members and is really only accessible by Keith. I fully appreciate that most adverts should go into Grassbox and that there should be some content on the website that is only for Club members. Is there a case though for the Adverts section to be made viewable by non members and should it be possible for registered Club members to be able to add content to it themselves ?

The reason for the question was that I have a small number of machines that I would like to clear out, but I felt that they were not really quite what most readers of Grassbox would be interested in. Conversely it appears that the website is visited by quite a number of non members whose interest seems to be in post war machines, the type that I am looking to dispose of. Now I hear you say eBay - well I'm trying that,  but why not make more use of our potential resource and maybe boost interest in the Club at the same time.

Keith tells me it would be possible to set this up although there are possible pitfalls with spam and spurious information creeping in etc. I imagine that there are ways of overcoming most of the problems but does anyone else see it as possibly useful or of interest  and worth doing ?

I know it all sounds a bit involved but it would be very helpful to get some feedback, remembering that this is in no way intended to replace the advert section in Grassbox or detract from it. My view may be a little controversial but I think it could actually improve the For Sale section in Grassbox  !

Good points Colin. What I'd suggest is allowing full member of the club to post adverts to the website including "for sale" and "wanted" postings.

I can look into doing this from a technical perspective. In the meantime, what does everyone else think?

As you say Colin makes some very valid points.My feeling is that if this can be achieved without causing too many problems for the site admin team then it could prove to be a good assett to the club and a good way of encouraging member participation in the forums.

I do have some indecision re the function being for members only as a wider audience could be helpful at times. Although I also understand the why you would not want a free for all situation with the problems that that could bring with it. At the end of the day a years membership to the OLC is still good value for money and I am sure that we would not turn away anyone interested enough to join up in the search for parts and information.
