Royal Enfield mower date

Hi folks,

I recently purchased a Royal-Enfield motor mower from a fellow member of my local classic vehicle club. The chap I bought it from believe it to be from around 1938. I was wondering if anyone can tell me the age or how to date it?

Cannot find a serial number stamped anywhere, but the engine number is 14W 784. It appears to be a Villiers engine and has I think a brass carburettor. The previous owner tells me it is gear driven not chain, which I understand means it is pre-war.

Am absolutely delighted to have this machine as I have been wanting a Royal Enfield for a long time. Just purchased some transfers through the club and fitted them and it looks great. Has a nice spark but am waiting for some decent weather to fire it up :-)

Many thanks,

Alec
