John Ferrabee Borrows Money from Robert Bamford

John Ferrabee borrows money from Robert Bamford on 6 July 1843, presumably to pay for purchasing the business and residential properties at Thrupp from the Wathen family the day before. John Ferrabee was renting Thrupp Mill from Elizabeth Watten in the 1820s. He added a codicil to his 1831 will in November 1843 to reflect his ownership of the Thrupp Mill, the foundry, and messuages.

Robert Bamford JP, a wealthy clothier, at the time resident at Newhouse, latterly called Brimscombe Court, which was formerly a property of the Wathen family. He had also owned Hope Mill, which was next to Thrupp Mill, at around the time of the loan. He later moved to The Lammas, Minchinhampton.

  • 1843: July 6th: John Ferrabee borrowed £2,500 from Robert Bamford for fourteen years at 4% per annum (less income tax and property tax). Insurance on building against fire £1,000.
