A Summary and diagram from the Titles Of Patents of Invention concerning Edwin Budding and George Lister's "Covering the cylinders of Carding Machines" - Patent 9788 - 15th June 1843.

Edwin Budding lived in Dursley during the 1840s and is buried at St. Marks Church, Woodmancote, in the town. Much later on, George Lister's son Robert Ashton Lister founded R.A. Lister of Dursley, the celebrated engineering company.

    PATENTS OF INVENTION.  No. 9788. 

    A grant unto GEORGE LISTER, of Dursley, in the county of Gloucester, card manufacturer, and EDWIN BUDDING, of the same place, machinist, for their invention of "Certain improvements in the means of covering the cylinders of carding and scribbling engines with wire cards, in and condensing the rovings delivered from such engines; and also in apparatus for sharpening or grinding the points of the cards; which latter apparatus may also be employed for grinding other articles"; 6 months.
