World Record Attempt

Pondering on life the universe and everything the other day I decided to have a look at the Guiness Book of Records on line. I discovered that while there is a world record for the longest duration balancing a lawnmower on a chin (4 mins 12secs), there is no record for the greatest number of lawnmowers in use simultaneously.

It would seem to me that next year's annual rally would be an ideal time to set a record. It would raise the profile of the club and be a nice little thing to add to the "Things I've Done" list. It is also something we could attempt to better year on year.

Guiness do not charge, although there is a fairly lengthy application procedure which I am happy to attend to if other members think it is a worthwhile scheme.

If they apply the same criteria as for the greatest number of tractors, combines and foragers etc they will be quite strict over the length of time the machines must be running or the ground covered but it is certainly worth investigating.

good idea is this for powered or push or both?

Yes The Guinness Book of Records are very strict, the first split will be of Motor Mowers verse Push (as push is not running)

Further The Hall & Duck Trust has the title for the largest collection of Vintage lawn mowers set in March 1997, which we have constantly broken every consecutively year there after, having now over 1100 machines pre 1939!

I also think you will find on a broader note that the OLC was set up of different collectors and collections, so the OLC does not have an actual collection Persia, which could prove a further issue

If the record attempt were to be in Milton Keynes, I could enlist people and if needed additional mowers! I think its a great idea.

Not sure I could stretch to Iran tho, the carpet would not have the puff to lift the mowers! :-)

Good thinking brummy_joe. There must a a few categories up for grabs within your idea.

Hmm I have more mowers than I can remember where I Ieft them, but only one starts.

I think we will need to get some help to wield them all.  Local cadets, brownies or scouts?

I read in the paper last week that a team from Luxembourg? took the continuous mowing record of some sort in England down south, pretty sure it was in the Independent paper and first time a team outside the UK had won it - was on a plane and tired so could be wrong...
