Tecalemit Grease / Oil Gun

Hi folks. Bought myself another Tecalemit Grease / Oil Gun off the Bay of E to use on my Ransomes Ajax 5 purely because it had more of the original paint on it than the one I already have. The serial numbers on both of them are identical, 729915 and GB2802, however, the aperature / nozzles? are different. Is it that one design was fitted to an earlier model then changed on later models maybe? Thanks as always for any reply's. Cheers. Rob

Hi folks. Cleaned out the old grease from the new gun (more paint on it), filled it with oil and used it on the Ajax rear rollers. Noticed immediately that the aperature/nozzle needed a tug to get it off the oiling point. The gun with no paint comes off the oiling point with no trouble at all??

Hi Rob

Interesting subject, Tecalemit made many different oilers/grease guns and the same type would have had many applications including the motor trade.

As far as I can see the Ransomes parts list only gave their internal part numbers & not the Tecalemit Cat.No. The Ajax toolkits vary a bit but here is what I can see from some of the parts lists

Mk 1 & Mk 2      Lubricator (Tecalemt), Spanner 5/16" x 3/8" , Spanner 1/8" x 3/16" , Ring Spanner 9/16"

Mk 3                   Oil Gun, Spanner B.S.F 1/4" x 5/16", Box Spanner, Grinding-in Pin.

Mk 4                   Oil Gun 1oz size, Spanner B.S.W. 1/4" x 5/16", Grinding-in Pin.

Mk 5                    as Mk 4 above

One 100% fact we know is that a 1956 Mk 3 Ajax came with a Tecalemit Cat No. 2787 marked Patent Pending. (see image) this mower was found boxed & brand new.

The two GB 2802 guns you show carry patent No. 729915 which was applied for in 1951 & published 1955, obviously this may relate to part of the internal operation & not the actual casing. (haven't had time to read it in detail).

I have seen other GB2802's which carry patent No. 621173 applied for 1946 & published 1949. (again not read in full)

There are currently seven GB 2787's on Ebay with varying lengths/nozzles so assume the number just relates to the design of the body.

I am digging a bit further to establish when the first design of the ones mentioned above were produced, as we know the early 1920s/30s Webbs & other mowers had the Tecalemit small brass gun as per the last two images below, could the pre war Ajax's have had the same?

Hi Clive. Thanks for your very detailed reply, very interesting and much appreciated. Great to see an image of the spanner supplied with the Ajax 4 and 5. Been trying to find one for ages! I now know what to look for on the Bay of E. I managed to get the Grinding In Pin from a seller who had it for sale along with the mower, but as it didn't sell I made an offer just for the pin and luckily they accepted. Again, thanks as always for your very helpful reply. Cheers. Rob
