The Mk25 is a big old lump but pretty basic. My memory of the first one that I worked on , probably in the 1970s , was beginning to wonder whether the self extracting feature on the flywheel was ever going to work before it broke. Then suddenly the flywheel popped loose. These days I would probably get it under tension and warm it up a bit with the hot air gun.

In the 80s we were still seeing some Groundsmen, both 28 and 34” fitted with the Mk25s and I have memories leaking carburettor float valves and the pull out dog clutches on the top shaft that were reluctant to stay disengaged. Apparently the little pin that wore, was never listed as a spare part but a contributor to this forum, Hortimech, has said that he used to use the hard stem from a pop rivet.
