Webb, help with Identification please

Enter a word or two to search the forum section and click the Search Forum button.

Good evening, this is my first post here.

Among my mowers I have a Webb 18"

Powered by a B&S 2.5 HP with a model code 0f 60102 year code 1981

Its in reasonable condition. complete as far as i can tell.

I am in the process of rebuilding the mower, have done a complete rebuild of the engine.

I have just found the photos I fortunately took of the drive system before i took it apart

Having great fun. I suffer from terminal cancer and arthritis, have had to give up playing golf and angling,  but I can sit down to work ok still. Seeing as I was an engineer in the RAF 40 years ago and have never lost a love of tinkering, I thought I'd start working on lawnmowers, as the costs are comparatively low.

I need help please identifying the exact Webb model I have, there are no plates on the mower or identification marks at all.-  what features do i need to look for to aid with Identifying it ?

I can post photos if that would help.

The only thing I could not take apart is the actual cylinder, I could get that out. there must be some specific way to do that and I do not have and could not find on the internet, a service manual for the mower.

Thanks, that helped and my new membership has paid for itself already.

I am sure I'll be back with other queries soon as I start to reassemble the mower itself

Ok I have a similar Briggs engine on a Trimmer that I am doing a bit of a restoration on. Keep us informed of progress.

Dave,

The Briggs rebuild went ok

apart from the head gasket in the NOS gasket set that I bought from Ebay was covered in rust, so that was discarded and another ordered. when disassembling it, I could not remove the clutch inner from the drive shaft. I took the engine to a local motor engineer who has better pullers than i do, and a Press as well. - He took it off and only charged me a tenner for it.

I have painted the block , sump cover and head in a high temp black, all the bolts I have nickel plated. The exhaust i have painted in a VHT Silver. The shrouds have been painted  in a metallic gold. - Not original I know, but it makes it look very attractive.

Colin ,put up a photo or two when you can sounds like you are going to a fair bit of trouble. Had the trimmer running yesterday was told on a Facebook Trimmer page to clear the two feeds to the carb from the tank  to improve running. Shes running ok need to sort out the throttle cable and the height of cut and that should be it.

Hello Colin,

Having just seen the photos, this mower looks of an antipodean style/origin rather than a UK Webb of old.

I left the mower world 34 or so years ago but still follow from the sidelines.  It looks more like a Masport brand of machine.?

It did have some Webb markings on it, I now believe it to be an AS 1284
