Atco Balmoral 14SE Chassis Help please

HI all.

Its my first post on here so here goes.

I've recently acquired a 2004 Atco Balmoral 14SE with a Tecumseh Engine. All seemed fine with the machine, until today i was rolling it out of the garage, and rear roller was hard to move. Upon closer inspection, the metal rod just above the roller going from one side of the chassis to the other was jammed in between. I've attached photos of the rod. The rod is inserted on the gearbox side and goes through a hole in the height adjuster side, however, there is no nut to secure it on this side. I can only assume somehow the nut has worked itself loose and has fallen out of the slot at the bottom.

I've tried looking on the parts diagrams but none of the diagrams show the horizontal bars etc on the chassis, and the respective nuts etc. Therefore, I'm unsure what sort of nut i should replace it with, without knowing the part number.

I was hoping that someone with the same mower would have any more information on this rod, and if there is indeed meant to be a nut securing the rod on the height adjustment side.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Here are some photos.

Thanks

Sy

Early in the life of that

Early in the life of that chassis design there were a couple of issues due to chassis flexing and reinforcing kits were available . One of the manifestations of the flexing was the drive jamming.

A while back I posted the relevant service bulletins on this site and you should be able to search for them but if not, I will dig them out and re-post them.

Many thanks for your response

Many thanks for your response. I've tried looking for it but I can't find it unfortunately, would you be able to repost it?
Is this rod part of that extra chassis support they put in? Thanks

If not, does anyone know what

Sorry i didnt see your response with the link. That explains it! Is it still possible to get these kits, which would have the rod and nut that i require, or are they obsolete now? Thank again.

I would think obsolete as all

I would think obsolete as all the relevant machines will either have been modified or no longer be in use.  If you just need the nut that will not be anything special and will be obtainable from a “nut and bolt seller” . I can’t remember whether those machines “had gone metric”  - I suspect not. If you can find a nut from elsewhere on the machine that fits, take it with you for a decent hardware merchant to match. There’s just a chance that I may have a rod for a wider machine and if I have I’ll check the thread.

Thank you so much for all

Thank you so much for all your information. It really is much appreciated. It would be amazing if you could measure the nut for me, so that I can just purchase another. If not, no worries, I'll try and find an equivalent one. Many thanks again
