No Spark Atco DeLuxe 17"
Hi there,
i have recently purchased what I believe to be an atco deluxe. The fella I bought it off said it hasn't run for 5 years or so. I've already replaced the pull start mechanism. However now have the problem that there is no spark being produced. I've had the flywheel off and tested the ignition coil with a multimeter and from the coil to the plug connector I'm getting a reading of 13kohms. I read somewhere that this was too high .... so basically I could with some guidance on what next do I need a new ignition coil and if so where would I get one that would fit. Or could it be something else.
Cheers!

Partly so , you appear to
Partly so , you appear to have a cast iron lump which eliminates electronic ignition but from there on we need the tin covers and flywheel removed.
Here we are

OK you have points ignition
OK you have points ignition with the condenser embedded within the coil. If the points are clean and set correctly - 18 thou, and there is no spark off the bare end of the plug lead to an unpainted metal surface it is likely that the coil/ condenser unit has failed.
The last DeLuxes had The A28
The last DeLuxes had The A28 aluminium block engine with electronic ignition, the earlier ones with the cast iron block had points and condenser, which do you have?
Edit. Should add the later points set up had the condenser encapsulated within the coil so all that you will see is the coil and points..
