Removal of Atco Deluxe B20 flywheel

Enter a word or two to search the forum section and click the Search Forum button.

I've recently acquired a Deluxe B20 lawnmower that I'm trying to restore to working condition.  I am trying to remove the flywheel to take a closer look at the magneto system but cannot figure out how to!  I've managed to remove the center nut but it seems like something else need to be undone/removed before the flywheel can be taken off.  Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Clement

Nothing more to undo, the flywheel is fitted onto a taper on the crank and can be very tight. Resist the temptation to hit either the end of the crank or the flywheel and make yourself a simple puller to pick up on the two 1/4" UNC tapped holes that hold the stater clutch or cup in place, using two 1/4" unc hex head screws.

Here's mine made about forty years ago but for a "one off", a piece  of flat plate with no centre forcing screw, will do.. Protect the threaded end of the crank with the flywheel retaining nut . The nut will also "catch" the flywheel if it is tight and lets go in a hurry. The extended handle on mine is just for convenience to resist the turning force on the flywheel when doing up the centre bolt .

Really tight flywheels that start to bend the puller without budging, will benefit from some heat, either from a hot air gun or a blow torch - but remember that there are plastic and insulation covered components behind the flywheel.

Just as an aside, that isn't the original engine, for two reasons, it is an early engine, earlier than when deluxe production started and it is a 75cc engine and it should be a 98cc engine.
