Repaint a Briggs engine or take the old, gold, paint off?

Hi,

Iam restoring a couple of Webb AB mowers, one 14" and and one 18". Both have the same Briggs & Stratton 2 HP engine, which are gold painted, including carb and tank.
The gold paint had its day, needs changing.
There are two options: repaint with engine paint, in say silver. Or take the paint off and leave the engine bare.
Regarding the last option: did someone do this and with what means?
