1853. GLOUCESTER MEETING. CATALOGUE OF THE VARIOUS NEW AND IMPROVED ACRICULTURAL IMPLEMENTS AND HUSBANDRY TOOLS, EXHIBITED AT THE GLOUCESTER MEETING OF THE
ROYAL AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY OF ENGLAND, JULY 13th, 14th, and 15th, 1853,
BY MAPPLEBECK AND LOWE,
MACHINISTS AND MANUFACTURERS, BIRMINGHAM. BIRMINGHAM: PRINTED BY W. HODGETTS, CANNON STREET. ADDRESS. Messrs. MAPPLEBECK AND LOWE,
IN presenting a Catalogue of AGRICULTURAL IMPLEMENTS, respectfully acknowledge the extensive patronage they have already received in this department of their business; and they avail themselves of this occasion to announce to Landowners and Agriculturists generally, that they have recently erected extensive Premises for the MANUFACTURE of IMPLEMENTS and AGRI- CULTURAL MACHINERY of every description.
The position of Birmingham as the Metropolis of the Midland Counties, the unequalled facilities of Railway 'communication which it possesses, and the rapid extension and increased importance of its other Manufactures, have induced Messrs. M. and L. to enter upon this branch of trade, which they are prepared to carry on in the most efficient manner.
The establishment of an influential Society in Birmingham for the exhibition of Stock is, also, another consideration which has led Messrs. MAPPLEBECK and Lowe to complete their arrangements for supplying all kinds of Implements and Machinery required in Farming operations; and they beg leave to invite Agriculturists to visit their Establishments, where an opportunity is afforded for inspecting not only every recent invention or improvement, but one of the largest Collections of Implements in the kingdom.
In the FURNISHING IRONMONGERY, STOVE GRATE, CUTLERY, PLATE, and other departments of their general business, Messrs. MAPPLEBECK and Lowe are prepared to offer a most extensive and beautiful collection of goods, selected from the first Manu- factories, and including all that can be required for use or ornament. Their SHOW ROOMS, which are at all times open to Visitors, contain a magnificent display of articles exhibiting great manufacturing skill and taste.
Bull Ring, Smithfield, & Gloucester St., July 11th, 1853.

ARTICLE NO. 40.-Patent LAWN MOWING MACHINE, invented by E. Budding.
This year further and important Improvements in the construction of these Machines have been made, and they can now be worked with equal facility and advantage on open unbroken Lawns or Pleasure Grounds, between Flower Beds, and over Narrow Verges. No practice whatever is required to work them, their motion over the ground being perfectly true and steady, by simply pushing or drawing them forward. They can be adjusted to cut any length, and will produce a more even and uniform surface than the most skilful mower. The Grass may be cut when dry, and with a Hand Machine and the same amount of labour more than double the quantity of work can be done than with a scythe. With ordinary care they are very durable and easily kept in order. Size, 16in. Price, with Packing-case, £5. 2. 6.
