The BBC's new series The Genius of Invention is scheduled to start on Thursday 24 January. It's not clear yet which of the four BBC2 episodes will feature the invention of the lawn mower but there are bound to be lots of interesting machines and devices covered during the series.

The Radio Times website is running a poll to find the most important British invention and of course the lawn mower is one of the choices. You can vote online. There's a longer article on the website with short profiles of the 50 inventions featured.
