Greens Silens Messor: 1880s

The Silens Messor was produced by Thomas Green of Leeds and London from the 1860 to the 1930s in various versions. This made it one of the longest production runs in mower history. This particular model was produced in the 1880s and is distinctive because of its S-shaped handles - later models made after about 1895 had straighter castings. The Silens Messor was produced in sizes from 6" cutting width for use on ornamental paths and between narrow obstructions right up to 36" cutting width and bigger for sports grounds and parks. Smaller examples are generally more collectable. The name Silens Messor means "Silent Machine".
