The Greens Silens Messor manufactured by Thomas Green & Son, Leeds & London, was the most if not close to the most successful mower ever produced. In fact it held the record for the longest production run for a mower. Manufactured from 1859 and finally withdrawn in the 1930's. The example shown here is from production towards the end of this period. This is identified on this model by two easy to spot differences , first the rear rollers have turned edges making turning easier and more significantly by the serial numbers on the handles. The older numbering system included numbers together only, whilst the late production models feature a two part serial number including letters. Silens Messors from the later production runs whilst newer are harder to come by.
