Thanks for replying Rob. I
Thanks for replying Rob. I have now sourced a local company, Brooke & Sons, I will give them a go. I will keep your recommendation in mind though.
Cheers
I am just sending my cylinder
I am just sending my cylinder away to a chap on ebay who grinds the cylinder and cutting plate (if required) and also cleans and paints. The cost is £20 plus £8 return postage. I am hoping this will be sufficient for my renovation.
By 'cutting plate', I take it
By 'cutting plate', I take it you mean the bottom block assembly with the bottom blade fastened to it. If so, there is no 'if required' about it, you must grind the cylinder and bottom blade, I mean, would you sharpen one blade of a pair of scissors ?

..... and for those who don’t know, the bottom blade is ground when attached to the bottom block / sole plate and this applies as much to a new blade fitted for the first time as one that has been in service.
Hi Rob. Not able to help you
Hi Rob. Not able to help you myself with the servicing etc on your Ransomes Ajax 5 but when I had a an Ajax 5 I took it to 'The Old Lawnmower Company' for a service and sharpen. I was more than pleased with the work done by them and they have since serviced 3 JP push mowers and a couple of Green's push mowers that I had. I have always been more than pleased with the work done and although they are over 2 hours away from me, (I live in Shropshire), the journey is well worthwhile. They are based in Astrope, Tring, Herts approx 45 miles away from Waltham Abbey. Maybe they could help you out? They do have an advert on the back of the 'Grassbox' magazine each quarter. Here is the link to their website for you. Cheers. Rob www.oldlawnmowers.co.uk
