does anyone know where I can get hold of the spanner required to hold the land roller shaft when removing the drive sprocket (LH thread). See picture

Some images that are stored on the iPad of the tool in action together with the sprocket gripper complete with “cheater” extension. Sometimes they even need some heat on the sprocket boss.

Ransomes used to supply a tool to engage that slot, but I've never seen one. For a Marquis it was LCG427 and may well have been the same for your machine. I work on a lot of Marquises and if they are anything to go by the sprockets can be extremely tight, requiring a robust tool to hold the other end and if you are working single-handed it needs to be made to facilitate that.
My Mk2 version uses a bearing carrier from a Minor, a short 1/2" extension from a socket set and a German Stahlwille 24x4 half inch drive drag link/track rod adjusting key. The key engages the slot with the bearing carrier bolted to the outside of the side frame using the machine's own bearing carrier to bolt to holding the whole thing rigid. The other end accepts a long 1/2" drive breaker bar, usually a 30" one, to resist the force needed to unscrew the sprocket..
