Evening All,

Hope all is well

I have just purchased a Webb Miniature and will soon start to restore it.

Does anyone have any original pictures of the Miniature or pictures of a recently restored one? Or does anyone have any advice/technical information.

Where, on a Webb Witch that I recently restored, there was a chain to drive the blades, on the Miniature that I have, there is a small rope - is this standard?

Thanks,

Mark

If you search this website you will find a number of illustrations from original sales brochures.

The cutting cylinder on the Miniature was/is driven by a rubber band. If what you have needs replacing, suitable bands can be  obtained from suppliers of sewing machine spares. Many sizes are available so check the measurements carefully.

Hello Mark, good to hear you have a Webb miniature. We do have 2 x brand new ones in our museum, one boxed & other on display, will post some images in next day or so.

The drive should be via a black rubber band, around 4mm diameter, this was to ensure it slipped if little fingers got caught in the rotating cylinder. When missing I have used the bands sold for sewing machines, lathes etc, ypu can buy it by length, cut it to size & heat/melt the ends to join up, worked very well, but you need to get the length correct.

Hope that helps, and please ask if any further info required.

Definitely not a rope or a vee belt, it is black and round in section just as Clive has described it, I have used a large O ring but I don't remember the size of it.

This is an original one, approx 40cm long & 5mm diam, will get some images of a new machine in a couple of days.
