The Imperial Lawnmower 1872
Mowing Wurzel
Whilst looking through the Gardeners Chronicle, on various interest streams, such as Green's Serial Numbers and when the Ransome's Automaton changed designs, I came across this page 15th of June 1872, and saw to the right; an advertisement for "The Imperial Lawn Mower," a make I hadn't seen or heard of before!

Hi Paul
It amazes me how many manufacturers there were in the early years, I can add a bit on the Imperial, earliest advertisement appears to be in Oct 1868 when they were only available from a sole agent in Leeds, through 1869 mainly advertised in Leeds & Bristol with a few random places including Brighton near to me! Newspaper ads seem to cease in 1871 with the Gardeners Chronicle ad perhaps being the last. They must have produced a reasonable number having won various prizes, although probably only around for four years.
Also attach an ad re an 1874 auction, many of us would have liked to have been there with three great mowers up for grabs.
