Ransomes Automaton throw plate

Enter a word or two to search the forum section and click the Search Forum button.

I have just acquired a 12" Chain Automaton which lacks a throw plate. My pictures of the Ransomes Sims and Head Gear Automaton (Alec's?) displayed at MKM in 2013 show the throw plate with a small plaque on it bearing the name and width of the mower, Mine is a Ransomes, Sims and Jefferies; does anyone know if the throw plate for this slightly later machine would have had the additional plaque or not?

Hi Joe

Good question, I think all the New Automatons & Chain Automatons had plain throw plates (although I'm happy to be corrected) will check mine tomorrow.

The only one I have with the info on the throw plate via a riveted on plaque is the earlier RS&H 'Automaton', which has been in bits for a year, must sort it for 2015!!

Cheers

Clive

Cheers Clive,

That's the answer I wanted! It's in reasonable condition, if covered with light surface rust. Everything seems free and it shouldn't take too much to get it ship shape again.

Incidentally, I have picked up on a rumour that Beamish Museum is planning a mower exhibit, so it might be worth keeping ears open for that although a search for "lawnmower" on their website yielded nothing.
