Villiers Mk25c engine strip down

Hello, can anyone help me please.

I have just been given an old Oxford Allen scythe (model T with Villiers MK25c two stroke).

I am in the process of striping down the engine but have got to point of taking the pull start pulley off. There are two small bolts in the pulley which came out okay but there is also one center nut (about 13/16 ths) which does not have a lot of clearance around it for a socket. Can anyone advise how I overcome the problem of undoing it? Do I need a special tool?

Thanks

Hi, any chance of a photo ? reason I ask is because I have heard of (and seen) a MK25 four stroke and a 25c two stroke, but never a MK25c two stroke smiley

No its not, that what I was trying to get over, there is the MK25 four stroke and there is a 25c two stroke, there is no MK25c

OK thanks for that. Mine is a 2 stroke engine so will be the 25c. I now have some photos but cant see how ot add them to this message.

Can you give me any info based on what I have said so far?

Thanks

I hope this will give you enough to see my problem. It looks to me as if I need to undo the nut in the centre of the Pull-start pulley but there is no room for a socket or box spanner.

Can you help.

OK, firstly I take it all back, it is a mk25c blush , all these years I thought it was just called a 25c, anyway, I think (bearing in mind it must be 30 years since I last worked on one these) that you have done the right thing in removing the two bolts, the starter is now stuck on the flywheel nut and perhaps some heat might help - hot air gun? i.e. the pulley should just pull off.

Many thanks for this. Do you know if the shaft that the pulley is on is tapered or just parallel?

I will now go and put some more heat on to it.

Many thanks HORTIMECH. It came off in the end but it put up a fight all the way. I used heat and a pulley puller which I had to put a 2 foot tommy bar on and when pulled up tight I had to hit the end with a hammer. It only ever moved about an eighth of an inch and then I had to tighten the puller again. So a good clean up before re-assembly.
