The crest

Hi Donal

Good to hear from you, what a great find, that type of design for the 24" is certainly shown in the 1906 to 1924 catalogues, being change in 1925, if it is an Edward V11 crest that could put it pre 1911. Will see what I can find out as regards the number, any chance of some more images, send to me direct if easier.

Cheers for now

Hi Donal

You need to speak to the oracle. I want a side shot of the machine, but the position of the clutch wheel suggests Mk2 which would the suggest 1911 is to early.

We house the most comprehensive dating for these type of machines including hundreds of photos which were retrieved from Ransomes over 20 years ago ,I need a close up of that engine.

One thing to remember about Southern Ireland, back in the early 1900's there were large estates owned by English Lords, allot of these early machines would have been shipped to Ireland from the Lords English estates, and the English estates would have then bought new

I take it you got the number stamped on the plate which sits on the petrol tank.I need the corresponding number that will be stamped on the right front hand colum on the main frame, its no good going by transfers they can be changed!

Kind regards

Andrew

Thanks Andrew, the mower is currently in Derbyshire!  A chap I've met dealing with vintage lorries came across it, I'll find that other number, I'm just sorting logistics to pick it up. The number 800 is from the tank plate.

Thanks Clive, I'll sort more pictures asap, the mower is in Derbyshire at moment, just sorting out transport etc. As soon as I get more I'll let you know. Good to hear from you

Hi Donal

Just retrieved some notes I have, agree with Andrew that its probably a Mk 2 as their numbers started at 701, but not sure what year production commenced.

The Mk 3 was introduced in 1924 which ties up with the change in my catalogues. Incidentally the Mk 1 appeared in May 1903 the first serial number being 312,

Over to you Andrew, keen to hear what you can add to fill the gaps.
