exhaust cans
Does anyone know if anyone makes replacement SS cans for small mowers. What kind of baffles are inside the original can of say a BSA F12 sloper, maybe I could fabricate one from some SS kitchen utensils?
BTW this problem gets worse as I can find a source of the original muffler. a company SL engineering makes muffler replacement and a BnS muffler is easily availble for ca £8 also there is a generic for £5 , but as it stands they wont fit cos the exhaust port is right next to the intake.
herewith some sketches
I am working on making a flange to 1/2" bsp to suit

I sent these people a query
I sent these people a query as to which is for an F12, never got a replay. Trouble is the exhaust is right next to the inlet and not much room beside the carb. Would have to take the engine to them to see what would fit unless someone knows, as you say the bottom left looks promising but not enough detail to tell, if they sent me some outline drgs I could see better
I have a cunning plan to knock up a 1/2 bsp flange £1.85 so far plus a slow bend £2.25 then any bns silencer would fit.
I think they said life expectancy 40 yrs, perhaps my silencer is the original
Surprised other f12 users havent run into this problem
I've got a variety of F12s,
I've got a variety of F12s, 11 at the last count, with a variety of mufflers including one scratch built (not by me!) that weighs a "ton". Some are a bit buried in the shed but I'll get the camera out tomorrow. Your idea of making a flange to take BSP is a runner. There was a firm, not far from me, that made threaded flanges in three BSP sizes, with slightly slotted holes for the manifold bolts and supplied them complete with gaskets. Alas they are no more. I think that I may still have a couple of the bigger ones but I guess that 1/2" bsp is what you need.
good stuff, delighted to
good stuff, delighted to cooperate, well Ill share my construction details, we're not here for the money
A sort through the odds box
A sort through the odds box produced these two Sloper mufflers, both a bit different from the usual one with the very short exit pipe.
Also found one of the aforementioned aftermarket flanges, threaded for 1/2" BSP pipe fittings.

The muffler you mentioned from viliers parts is indeed the right one as they finally replied but its no longer available
the muffler on the bottom right looks like a BnS sausage type ca £15.it looks a bit bent - made to fit?
I wonder where that aftermarket flange came from?
The sausage one is an
The sausage one is an aftermarket pattern part £7.70 + vat when I last bought one. Alas the company that made the flanges in three sizes , is no longer trading.
Answer to a Mower's prayer
Answer to a Mower's prayer
Yes you can make your very own 1/2 bsp flange for £1.80
from this
to this
and here's how
all on a wet windy afternoon
I havent tried skimming the surface because maybe with a gasket and hermetite, it doesnt need it, but I could easy chuck it in the Myford
Now to see if a cheap generic BnS clone can will fit.
OBTW you have to drill your own 7mm holes on a 1.5" pcd, not use the existing flange holes- wrong spacing
and here it is fitted and with a 1/2" socket there is room for a BnS can £6.80

Stupid boy Pike, I should
Stupid boy Pike, I should have checked, but I have seen long stemmed 1/2" bsp x 8" in the states, am waiting for a slow bend to arrive
The slow bend and diy flange
The slow bend and diy flange works great. not rocket science
I cant get reliable help to knock these flanges out because stoopid boys with bad attitude are all I can get
Maybe some of the romanian car wash guys?
If I made 100 and sold them on ebay for £5 i'd barely make a £1 ea after fees and pnp
Sigh
Other than the price is this
