Drummond Willing Worker

Enter a word or two to search the forum section and click the Search Forum button.

I have inherited a Drummond Willing Worker complete with grass box. From the limited research I have been able to do I believe it is an early model dating from the early 1920's as they changed to silver by about the mid 20's apparently? Not sure how rare these are - does having the grass box make any difference?

I'd like some suggestions as to what might be done with it. I don't really wish to keep it but it would seem vaguely criminal to just take it to my local refuse/recycling site given the evident quality of its construction and its age. Does it have any value? - If I dispose of it I'd like to know it was going somewhere it would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or comments and apologies if this forum is not the appropriate place for such enquiries.

Welcome to the Club and forum. Your machine and enquiry is exactly the sort of thing we like to see here.

Your Willing Worker is a good looking, original example and the grassbox is certainly a bonus. You are correct in dating it to the early/mid 1920's, it is very collectable and should certainly be preserved rather than scrapped. I'm not certain from the photo whether it's a 10" or 12" model. The 10" is less common but either way I have no doubt that a collector would be very interested. If you wish to part with you could put an ad on this site or of course eBay. As to value it is more difficult to be precise - it is still something of a specialist market; timing and location could also make a difference. The bottom line is that the market will find it's own level on the day. It deserves a good home, please don't let it become a ' garden ornament ' !

Hi Stonethemows and thank you for your reply. It's a 12" model and you confirm my thoughts that it ought be preserved. Will be interesting to hear what opinions are and I may well list it on the site. Thanks again.

x2 for everything that has been said. It will make a great addition to someones collection and having a box makes it more desirable. I'm sure that there will be someone who collects from that era who will love it.
