Tecumseh model and serial number interpretation.
HI think that I posted this some time ago but in the light of recent posts concerning Heavy Duty Atcos with Tecumseh engines it may be of interest
while the bulletin mentions “two wheeled “ vehicles, the same system applies to “ industrial engines” such as those fitted to garden machinery,

I believe that your machine
I believe that your machine could have been made between '71 and '81. I'm only basing this on when I opened my mower business in June '81 we were regularly seeing "well used" HD Atco 20 and 24" machines with Tecumseh H50s both in private ownership and from ex local authority disposals. Is the hardware on your machine BSF or UNF?
That said, I've never really got to grips with Atco's own "factory id and serial number" labels.
what is stamped into the
what is stamped into the airshroud adjacent to the sparkplug, it should start with 'H50-65468P' if it is '6273c' then this would make it the 30th Sep 1976, which to me would make it just a little later than I would expect. As far as I am aware, the 'H50' engines were only used for a short time before being replaced by the 'HH50' & 'HH60' engines.
Thank you for that
Thank you for that information. The details on my Tecumseh engine are; H50-65468P ser 6273c L23808
Details on the mower say; Made for Charles H Pugh Stowmarket England Atco Ltd.
Looking at the Atco history, I had assumed my mower was built between 1981 and 1991.
The engine, 1 Oct. 1986. Am I 10 years out with my thinking? Kind regards, Ian.
