Another large mower rescued by club members yesterday, a 42in Ransomes ride on from the 1930's (despite auctioneers thinking it might be 1910/20's we wish). Few bits missing but well underway in locating suitable parts, it does come with a starting handle! may be of use later!

Fitted with an 11hp 4 cylinder Alpha Coventry engine.

Hi Clive. Just had a look in my book Ransomes Sims and Jefferies - A history of their products by Brian Bell. On page 103 there is a picture of a 42" Ransomes with the 11hp water cooled engine - Same as yours??

Yes Rob, that's the one, below images from 1930 catalogue, they were using the same image in 1938 so had a reasonable run.

Cheers Clive. The image from the sales catalogue on the right hand side of your post matches the image that appears in the book. I see from the book that potential customers for the mower were offered a 5% discount for cash and that the optional trailed seat added another £6 10 shillings to the cost!!
