Collection, Preservation and Display of Old Lawn Mowers

Display at Milton Keynes

This post is prompted by the comments in the latest edition of Grassbox (now I REALLY want a camel mower!) on the dwindling size of the display at the annual rally.

I have only attended 2 rallies so far, being a relative newcomer, and I have exhibited at both. Mowers I have brought along have generated some interest, and I have, in turn, seen a good many interesting mowers. It is good to see the high quality of restorative work that some members are capable of and it provides an opportunity to see machines that, for one reason or another would be unlikely ever to form part of my own collection.

I feel that the display is a crucial part of the rally and it is something that is entirely in the hands of the members; so if you are going in May, please bring something along. Leave some room in the car for a new toy from the auction, by all means, but don't leave home empty handed.

As for me, I'll be taking my Shanks Golf Lynx (as discussed elsewhere on the forum) and my new 10" Shanks Caledonia complete with box......... and on my "want to see" wish list? That recreated Budding as seen on "How Britain Worked"......
