Hello, The Dig For Victory Show will be held at the North Somerset Showground near Bristol and is a 1940s vintage family festival, I will be displaying some of my collection over that weekend which I’m looking forward to. On their website is a stall holders form in which if interested, other club members can enquire. I’ve emailed Keith to hopefully borrow the clubs banner as I would like to promote the club whilst I’m there. Not sure which of my collection to take, mowers manufactured or in use during the 1940s but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, going to get my researchers head on and hopefully Mr G can advise me at the AGM. For now, regards

Just got back from what I would call a great success, not only the interest my display got, the Club banner and new club T shirt arriving Saturday morning(thanks Colin) Getting quite a few mentions,  but the interesting people with their stories, I met a chap who at the age of 9 lost two of his fingers when his dad ran over his hand with a push mower whilst he lay on the lawn, two things spring to mind, one, dad wasn’t paying enough attention, and two, how sharp that mower must have been. So apart from the display, I had children and grown up children having a go with a little Webb miniature, an Ajax MK1 and a ransomes centenary, all three of which didn’t disappoint and didn’t get broken.  A new Steam Fayre invite in Highbridge was offered (gutted I cannot do that weekend as away) and came home with a shanks Scot 10 inch from a local guy who wanted it to go to a good home. A great weekend and hopefully will be invited back next time.

An excellent display of machines, well presented, and the setting looks picturesque!

It certainly takes a lot of planning, dedication, time  and logistics to organise a display.

Well done Lee - looks fantastic. You will almost certainly be invited back, and to other events as well. Organisers are always on the look out for enthusiasts who make a real effort and have something of wider appeal. Actually it all looks very familiar and I notice your raised section which always seems to add interest and means you can fit more in to the allotted space. All extra time though in setting up and transporting.

One year I did about fifteen events and frankly it was too much even though on most of them I was with two or three other Club members, all contributing with their own machines as well. Mowing Wurzel has got it spot on with his comments. In my experience some organisers did not seem to realise just how much physical effort was involved, never mind the cost of fuel etc. Others were very good and put themselves out to accommodate us. You will soon get to know the one's you want to do business with ! One thing that is worth bearing in mind which often isn't realised - the ' old lawnmowers ' are invariably the oldest exhibits in the show. I never came across any cars, traction engines, motorcycles, tractors or farm equipment that was anywhere near the age of some of the mowers.
