Veteran Cars?

Sadly the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run will NOT be taking place tomorrow, however our museums display of Pre 1905 veteran mowers that may well have shared a garage with the much admired cars will be seen, in fact already in place. The route that the cars would have taken passes our museum entrance.

The first car run took place in 1896 the same year that Ransomes were developing the Patent Chain & Gear Automatons which were introduced in their 1897 catalogue.

In the display (image below) we have from left to right, (upper plinth), Shanks 16in Patent Gear, Greens Multum-in-Parvo 6in Gear, Shanks Caledonia 8in Gear, (lower plinth), Ransomes 10in New Automaton, 8in New Automaton, 10in Automaton & Greens Silens Messor 6in Chain drive.

Superb display as ever. You certainly have some very enviable mowers within your collection / museum. Well done Clive.

Hi Clive,

There appears to be something relevant missing in your display.

Where's your pre 1905 veteran motor mower?

Perhaps one day in years to come when this mess is all over you could stand in front of our 1903 Ransomes Patent Motor mower 30 inch Pedestrian, with a red flag, though I would not advise it on that steep hill near Haywards Heath!

As I'm sure Keith would tell you,I have history!!!! One year at Malvern I struggled to stop our 1907,a bloody hairy experience I can tell you.

Kind regards

Andrew
