Hi, I have just acquired an Qualcast model `H' sidewheel mower and do not seem to be able to find any information from the OLC mower profiles or the Lawn Mower Directory. Any information would be gratefully received.

Regards Ray.

Not sure when it was introduced precisely but it was in production through the 1930s to the early to mid 40s (I have or have seen entries in catalogues for 1931 and 1941).

One of these implies that the Model H was a replacement for the earlier Model G as an "improved" machine. It was a high wheel (wheels larger diameter than normal to cope with longer grass) and was available in 10", 12", 14" and 16" cut at prices ranging from 35/- to 39/6 depending on size with grass box an additional 5/6 if bought with the machine (7/- otherwise). These prices from a 1931 wholesaler catalogue.

Other members may know more. I've only ever seen a few of them and all of those, as far as I can recall, were the smaller sizes.

Hey Ray,

I have just joined the club and my first mower is a Qualcast Model H, too.

I also am struggling to find any information regarding these mowers. There just doesn't seem to be any information on the web.

I'm not sure if I can help you in any way but i will try.

Cheers.

Yes agree with Keith W's comments the H being a 'High Wheel' version, originally the 'D' from around 1924 still advertised in 1928 then a brief spell we think possibly as the  'G' 1929 before becoming the 'H' in 1930 & continuing to the 1940's or after. It did become the H1 in 1952 or H1A with rubber tyres.

The 'Low-Wheel' 'E'  being the most often seen was introduced around 1925 as a replacement of the 'C'.

As to 'A' & 'B' Chris Proudfoots excellent article in Grass Box 87 2014 covers their mystery & whilst just checking a few ad's I have found mention of a Model 'F' in 1928 appearing several times, is this yet another model, or perhaps a miss-print of the 'E'.

I do have an original of the 'Instructions for using the 'E' & 'H' incorporating parts list, contact me if a copy required.

This is the 'H' in the 1932 catalogue
