Estimates on the weight of this roller please..

I am watching, as they say, this roller on ebay.

If I get it, it will be a solo pickup and take out of the boot of a hatch back car. I will be armed with scaffold boards and optimism. I can dead lift a Ransomes 18 in/out of a car but I am guessing this might be fair bit heavier? With reference to the background in the pic, anyone hazard a guess? - I know there's a crack that  need to repair.

I would guess well over twice the weight of a Marquis and far more difficult to load without injury. Also. if said hatchback has a lipped boot, almost impossible to get out!!

Morning

Please dont even think about it  !!! I sent two people to collect one like this and there were two guys there and four couldn't lift it. I dismantled it on site and even then one half of roller was more than one person should be lifting.  And the counter balance weight  in the centre is even heavier!!! I would guess total around 150-170kg. As wristpin says two or three of you might get it up some very very strong planks that would need to be longer then your car but you would never get it out again if there's a lip on the boot. Please don't try, hire a low trailer, long planks and at least two people.

Hi, don't want to put you off but not only will it be almost impossible to bring back in a car but the crack on the roller looks pretty bad ( probably been dropped getting it out of a hatchback) Of course you can weld it but to be honest rollers are plentiful and there are much better ones out there. All said if it's very very cheap it may be worth it.

Thanks for this guys, clearly a 2-3 man job then, recently got rid of a Renault traffic which would have made life a lot easier.

Plan B was to make a low wooden horse in line height with the boot, board on top, lift onto board and push in. That sounds optimistic now too, so a rethink based on feedback above. Have a few supine males laying around here but I was hoping to avoid the moaning on the way to collect..

Re the crack, any ideas if that would be an iron or steel roller?

I agree, I assumed to buy something with that sort of damage you must be an expert welder , if not that crack could turn into several before you're done. Find a good one would also be my advice.

I agree with MikeHpw1 the crack could turn into several. It is cast iron which can be welded but you need to be an expert welder and the rods needed are so expensive now which might make it uneconomic. As I said they are plentiful and there are some really nice ones out there if you are patient.

Hi

No beating around the bush, that is a 1CWT roller, best of luck with your double hernia!

You need a van or a trailer,or if you are clever leave for some bugger else

Kind regards

That made me laugh :-)

Anyway, bit of a successful update, I didn't go for that one in the end as it was too far to risk getting pulled over during....

I saw the same model with no defects not that far away and got it for £20.

Armed with an Audi A5 rear seats down, scaffold planks cut to an estimated ideal length and a wooden sloping ramp I made up to fit inside the drop of the boot lid (about 5" drop) I went and collected it. First attempt to roll up the planks was too timid, 2nd go I went full pelt with a run up and in it went rebounding a little off the front seats, biggest concern was the handle rearing up and nearly taking out the large glass boot panel. I weighted the handle down and chocked the roller up, trip home was thankfully uneventful. Getting it out was fine also due to the wood ramp only having to jump out of the way and pirouette a bit as it reached the drive.

It can be done solo even in a coupe if you are foolhardy enough!
