Weed in grass

Enter a word or two to search the forum section and click the Search Forum button.

Hi, See the title, a bit off topic, I have a weed in my grass and would like to know what it is, and maybe someone has an idea how to get rid of it. At the moment I pull it out or use a strimmer on the larger surfaces, then reseed to get the grass back. This creates a moon landscape weeks on end...

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Correct in assuming that you don’t wish to use weed killers ?

One way to tackle it is to use a high nitrogen fertiliser such as Growmore,  in the spring in the hope that the consequent grass growth will choke the weed but you may need to mow twice or three times a week.

Have to say that it’s looking a bit like one area of my grass that’s coming under attack from moles, badgers and squirrels - and, I saw a rabbit last week.

Well Angus, just attract a few deer & you can open up wildlife tours, you must have some very appetising grass.

I have a similar landscape in summer months, as a result of owning a dog ...................................

There are wild wild boar in the area but as yet they haven’t found me !  I’m not a lover of Americanisms  but  wild life is far too gentile a term, definitely destructive CRITTERS !

I knew that I had this chart somewhere and have just spent a couple of hours looking for it. Not time wasted as there's been a lot of binning and shredding along the way!

Why do you have a diagram of my garden, Angus?

Pigeon cam!  However Henno's weed needs to grow a bit for any chance of identification.

What's macro setting...?

Ultra close up but only if your camera has that facility - I think!

Modern digital cameras automatically go to macro setting when you get to within a few inches of a subject. At least my last three did and does.
