ATCO Groundsman 34
I have an Atco groundsman 34 which I bought second hand around 30 years ago. This mower has the 5hp Tecumseh engine with electric start.
Does anyone know how I can find out the date of manufacture of this machine ?
I assume there is a serial number, does anyone know where it is located ?
The engine now needs half choke to run smoothly, otherwise it stops any ideas why ?
Any help greatly will be greatly appreciated

If it is an Atco 34 fitted
If it is an Atco 34 fitted with an electric start engine, it isn't 5HP, it will be 8HP (cast iron engine with electronic ignition, usually painted red).
As for age, early 70s to early 80s
Try cleaning the carb, it sounds like it is slightly blocked.
X 2, both for engine size and
X 2, both for engine size and the need for a carb clean.
Assuming that it is an 8hp this Link to the illustrated parts list may be of assistance. Should you need it I can post a Link to the whole IPL for your machine.

Hey that's really great,
Hey that's really great, thank you so much.
It is a red engine and I don't know why I thought it was 5hp, it's clearly an 8hp one from what you all say.
When I get the chance over the weekend I will look for the engine serial number.
Any advice / tips on cleaning the carburettor ?
